Retiring Fontcase

Fontcase saw its first light in 2009, and the Mac landscape has changed a lot since.

The App Store came along and we jumped in enthusiastically, but with the advent of enforced sandboxing, and the tightening up that every OS release brings, things have become rather difficult.

One of the main functions of Fontcase is font activation, and from the day we introduced the app we’ve had a large percentage of our customer base who just didn’t get the idea of font activation and why such a thing was ever needed.

That was already a support problem for us, but with the advent of sandboxing, font activation simply doesn’t work properly, and the problem is magnified greatly.

As a result, we’ve come to the realisation that Fontcase’s main features are just not needed or appropriate in this day and age, and the time has come to retire it.

Therefore, we’ve made the difficult decision to remove the app from the store. We will offer non-sandboxed copies to anyone who’s experiencing problems, but this will be the last Fontcase release.

We would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to the many customers who bought Fontcase over the years.

We aren’t necessarily done with fonts yet though. Fontcase had other features that are still relevant, and we’re thinking hard about what to do with them. Watch this space.
